We maintain strict care for the land and environment at Veramonte by adopting sustainable farming practices in our vineyards and in the winery.

  • More than 10,000 acres of the estate is preserved as a natural green belt.
  • 120 acres are farmed organically
  • We till the soils between the vine rows to manage weeds and  therefore avoid herbicides
  • Grape pomace containing skins and seeds are composted with other cuttings from the vineyards and used to nourish the soils.
  • Cover crops are planted to preserve water,  provide natual fertilizer for the soil and  host populations of beneficial insects that control pest populations naturally.
  • Within the winery and office, we follow a program of recycling paper, plastic and glass waste.
  • In an effort to reduce energy usage, the winery uses to energy efficient lighting and compact fluorescent lamps.

Water conservation
At Veramonte we are working hard to preserve water, some of the practices we are currently implementing are:

  • At Veramonte we have a water reservoir that collects water from the winter rain. At the same time our irrigation system is monitored closely and thus allowing us to produce the best possible grapes with minimal water.
  • Irrigation is monitored by the Schoalnder pump, which indicates the exact amount of water needed by the vines, allowing us to preserve water and not irrigate when it is not necessary.

As a result to our commitment on preserving water, Veramonte has been able to reduce by 35% water usage over the past 3 years.
