Cristian joined the Veramonte WINEMAKER team in 1999 as assistant winemaker and was promoted to head winemaker in 2007. Since his first position in the cellar at Viña Errazuriz in 1997, he has developed his interests and passion in the understanding of the diverse terroirs of Chile to produce quality wines.
He has worked closely with a number of winemakers and consultants both at Veramonte and during numerous harvest stints in California and Bordeaux, including luminaries Paul Hobbs, Alvaro Espinoza, Aurelio Montes, Larry Levin and the famous Chilean oenologist Felipe de Solminihac.
Now, with a special focus in Casablanca, Cristian works closely with Veramonte vineyard manager Jose Aguirre studying how plants respond to different natural and organic treatments, with the main objective of producing competitive and high quality wines that can exceed international standards.
“My aim is to understand deeply the terroir for each wine. The soil, climate and location in the vineyard are essential in order to balance production and obtain distinctive character from each wine,” he says. |
